Dear Friends,

Just a few short notes today, but they’re interesting.

The Pennsylvania Coalition of Taxpayer Alliances (PCTA), our umbrella organization, now has twenty member groups. Our most recent addition is Citizens For Responsible Education, based in Upper Saint Clair, PA. Welcome!

Membership for group number 21 is pending and they should be part of the Coalition by the time you read this. I’ll introduce them in the next newsletter. We’re making great progress!

THE BIG NEWS! The PTCC is no longer just an E-mail list – we now have a new website! Please take a look at You’ll find a lot of new information that has not been included in the newsletters, including a complete explanation of Act 1, the bogus property tax reform bill, and a really nifty Excel calculator that will project your school property taxes through 2010 under the provisions of Act 1. I’m sure that the calculator’s results will be a real eye-opener for you, especially if your total household earned income is greater than $35,000. I had originally planned to attach the calculator to this E-mail, but thought better of it to reduce the newsletter download time for dial-up subscribers. I hope that you’ll enjoy the site!

During the past two weeks the Coalition has had featured radio air time on three talk radio stations.

On July 27, Cheryl Zaleski of the Coatesville Taxpayers Alliance had two hours with Bob Durgin on WHP in Harrisburg. Bob is an extremely enthusiastic and vociferous advocate for our position; they really burned up the airwaves and had a lot of supportive calls. I have an edited mp3 file of the broadcast; if you would like to listen to it, send me an E-mail and I’ll send it to you.

On August 1, Helen Pool of the Daniel Boone Taxpayers Association joined me for a one hour appearance on Talk Tuesday with Jo Painter on Reading’s WEEU. Jo was very sympathetic to our cause and we managed to get a lot of good information to the WEEU listeners. We also received a number of supportive calls from the audience.

This afternoon (8/4) Rick Ritter of the Coatesville Taxpayers Alliance will have a two hour appearance on WCOJ in Coatesville. I’ll let you know the results of this in the next newsletter.

These radio appearances have added a great number of subscribers to this list and to the Coalition. We’ll keep working to build our base of support with more radio opportunities like these.

The coalition is now working on plans for our campaign for the November election. We’re planning to raise some hell with the legislature and we’ll need some help from all of you to put pressure on the politicians to get real property tax reform accomplished. I’ll be updating you on the plans as we get them finalized. Grassroots movements like ours can be very effective if all of the supporters join together in opposing oppressive legislation. You’re all invited to join in the fireworks!
